What are Different Map Modes For?

Understand the various map modes available in Fishbox and how they can enhance your experience

When using map-based apps, choosing the right map mode can greatly enhance your navigation and location-scouting experience. In Fishbox, different map modes are available depending on your device: Hybrid, Satellite, Street (iOS), and Terrain (Android). Each mode is designed for a different purpose, helping you explore fishing areas and their surroundings more effectively. Here’s what each mode is designed for and how you can use it.

How to Switch Map Modes

You can easily switch between map modes by accessing the Map Settings in the app.

1. Hybrid Mode

Hybrid mode combines the detailed street maps found in conventional road maps with satellite imagery. This mode is perfect when you need a clear visual of the terrain but also require the detail of roads, paths, and other landmarks to navigate effectively. It’s particularly useful for planning access to remote fishing spots where you need to understand both the natural landscape and local infrastructure.

2. Satellite Mode

Satellite mode provides a high-resolution aerial view of the area without the overlay of road names or paths. This mode is ideal for getting a 'real-world' look at the environment. Anglers find this mode helpful for spotting natural features like lakes, rivers, coastlines, and vegetation patterns that might influence fishing conditions. It’s the best option when you want to survey the area's natural geography or locate hidden spots that aren’t marked by typical map features.

3. Street Mode (iOS)

Street mode provides a clean and simplified map view with roads, place names, boundaries, and other useful location details. It can be especially helpful when planning how to reach a fishing area, identifying nearby towns and access roads, or getting a clearer overview of the surroundings.

4. Terrain Mode (Android)

Terrain mode focuses more on the physical characteristics of the landscape, helping you understand the terrain surrounding a fishing area. It can be useful for identifying geographical features, elevation changes, and the general shape of the land when planning access to a fishing spot.

Conclusion

Each map mode in Fishbox serves a different purpose:

  • Hybrid combines satellite imagery with roads and labels, helping you understand both the landscape and nearby access points

  • Satellite provides a detailed aerial view of shorelines, vegetation, structures, and other natural features

  • Street (iOS) offers a clean view with roads, place names, and location details, making it useful for navigation and trip planning

  • Terrain (Android) highlights the surrounding landscape and geographical features, helping you better understand the area around a fishing spot

The available map modes may vary depending on your device. You can switch between them anytime in Map Settings and choose the view that best fits what you’re looking for.
